High Blood Pressure - Let's Show Your Heart Some Love!
High blood pressure raises the risk of a heart attack, stroke, or kidney disease.
You're not alone in being diagnosed with high blood pressure. About 30% of the population has this but many of us aren't aware as there usually not any obvious symptoms. If you know you have high blood pressure there are lots of things you can do towards getting your blood pressure under control.
Healthy eating: Eat a low-fat balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Keep your alcohol intake to a maxium of 1-2 drinks per day, watch your caffeine intake. Maintain your ideal weight.
Get active: Any amount of exercise is better than none. Start slow and work up to more activity as advised by your doctor.
Stop smoking: Quitting completely is best but even cutting down is good.
Relax: Find time to rest and enjoy activities and hobbies you love!
The main thing you can do to reduce your risk is to take your medication as prescribed.
Blood pressures work in different ways and have different side effects. Discuss the best treatment for you with your doctor. Taking your medicine properly puts you in control, and will help you manage your condition!
